Ground on the New Playground onSaturday, May 12, 2012!
The
Grow with Gompers Committee, Alderman Margaret Laurino, and State
Representative John D'Amico invite you to celebrate construction
beginning on the new playground at Gompers Park. The groundbreaking
will take place at the existing - soon to be renovated - Gompers Park
playground at 4222 West Foster Avenue on Saturday, May 12, at
10am.
Children can enjoy light refreshments and face painting, too. Here are
a few pictures to show what you can plan to play on - the new
playground is coming soon, kids! Beyond the new slides and
swings
- which will be lots of fun of course - building the playground is
about building our community. That's you! So this is your moment - join
us to enjoy it on May 12!>

Renovation a Reality in Summer 2012
Yes, you
read it right!
The long-awaited Gompers Park playground renovation is now fully funded
and ready to be realized. Thanks to everyone for sticking with
it
- and staying true to the vision for a dynamic new place for our
children to safely play and our diverse community families to connect.
To all who supported the new playground, we cannot thank you enough,
but bet the smiles on the faces of the children delighted by their new
playground might be a good start! Please join Grow with Gompers in
especially extending our appreciation to our dedicated partners who
have contributed major funding to the playground renovation,
collaborating together in a shared commitment to completing this
exciting and necessary improvement to our park and community. Thank you
Alderman Laurino, State Representative D'Amico, and the Chicago Park
District for ensuring our new playground is built and we look forward
to the ribbon cutting!
We would also like to send a special invitation to all who contributed
to the Grow with Gompers fundraising efforts, whether through donations
$1 or $1000; providing much needed supplies or raffle prizes for
events; volunteering 1 hour or 1000; buying a brick or patting us on
the back when we needed the moral - as well as financial - support.
Thank you and we would love to see you on May 12 to mark this moment
together!
What To Expect When You're
Expecting...A New Playground!
So when can you expect to celebrate the opening of the new playground?
As you know, a construction timeline is dependent on many factors, but
we should be able to enjoy our new Gompers Park playground at the end
of summer or beginning of fall. Work is starting soon, so cross your
fingers and bear with us for a few months. It's been almost 4 years,
$450,000 and countless volunteer hours in the making!
If you have purchased an engraved brick through the Make Your Mark on
Gompers Park program, thank you so much and we cannot wait to see your
special brick installed at the new playground. Feel free to email
Jennifer, our coordinator, with any questions.
We know a summer without a playground at your park can be frustrating,
however we are fortunate to have several good options near Gompers Park
for fun in the summer sun! Grow with
Gompers will be posting some
great ideas on where to play while our playground is underway...
